Descriptive articles are those that give information about the thing while prescriptive articles are those that tell people how to do something. An article is a part of language, a body of writing. These articles are used to provide information, to wit, to the reader.

There are several things that make articles distinctive from one another. One of these is the use of an indefinite article. An indefinite article is any noun that denotes more than one thing or that has more than one meaning. In simple terms, if you’re talking about the sky you could talk about the stars, if you’re talking about shoes you could talk about barefoot, and so on.

This is why articles can be very long, even if you don’t mention anything specific.

Long articles are very common in articles talking about locations. For instance, if I were to write a travel article, I would probably talk about a place I have been, visited, or otherwise observed during my travels. A short description wouldn’t do this because it wouldn’t give readers enough information to identify with you. The next example is when talking about the United States, most people know the names of states like Texas, Louisiana, New Orleans, or Alabama, but no one knows the name of their national parks. If you travel around the world, you can mention the names of countries you have visited, but you should also indicate how you got there.

For example, in French the articles usually precede the noun (unless it comes after) and in German they always precedes the noun unless it is a preposition.
